Sand and Hope is my personal memoir of life in Iraq from 2007 to 2009. As a civilian on a Provincial Reconstruction Team, I share what it was like living in Baghdad’s Green Zone, traveling “outside the wire” through Tikrit and Balad, and working with U.S. forces to help rebuild communities. It’s a story of danger, resilience, and the small victories that kept hope alive during the Iraq War.
